Silas is one!!!

Somehow, Silas has turned one years old. We don't know where the time went and are amazed at how fast this first year flew by. Silas had a big party with his cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and great grandparents!! And it was a UofL Cardinals theme, which Silas chose of course. He had so much fun and loved his cake and played with new toys and crawled around and wore himself out. He was actually in bed before everyone left! We are so thankful for Silas and feel so blessed to be his mommy and daddy. We are praying for wisdom and guidance as we raise him. Enjoy these pictures from the last few weeks.

Silas is coming up on his first birthday and we can't believe it! He has grown so fast and we have loved every minute of it. He's a crazy little boy, and he's a sweet little boy. He makes us laugh, and he melts our hearts. What a gift from God! Enjoy these pictures.

Wild Man!

Silas is a wild man!! And we love it! He is so happy and loves to laugh and get crazy. We think he's loud and obnoxious like his momma! At the same time, he is the sweetest little boy who loves to look around, study things, cuddle, and he has this gentle smile that he gives people. He gets all that from his momma too!! Anyway, its been a long time since we've added some pictures, so here you go. God has been beyond good, and we just continue to pray everyday for Silas and for wisdom as we raise him.

Crawling!

Silas is crawling now!! It came out of nowhere. He'd been getting in crawling position for awhile, but never going anywhere. Well, yesterday he decided he was going to go somewhere. He set out on an adventure, and it was hard work. He had an entire room to explore and there was so much to see. So much to discover!! And his expedition wore him out just in time for a big nap. Kelly and I are so thankful for Silas. Its amazing every day watching him live and grow and learn and laugh. He's growing up so fast and we're trying to soak in everyday. God has been extremely good. Beyond good. Beyond what we can understand.

Little Buddy

Kelly and I can't believe how fast Silas is growing up. He loves to have fun and loves to laugh and is starting to sit up and play and interact so much. He's the sweetest little boy, although he's starting to realize crying might get him something. He'll learn fast that it won't work with us!!!! 6 months old

We can't believe that Silas is already 6 months old!! And he's rolled over onto his tummy twice now, and Kelly missed it both times. The first time, she was upstairs, and I saw it happen. But it happened so fast. The second time, Kelly laid him on his back, turned to do something, turned back around, and he was on his tummy. He's a sneaky little guy, and he loves to have fun. God has given us a gift in Silas! Also, in a couple pictures, you'll notice Claire Kohlman (Silas' first girlfriend).

Silas is such a happy little boy. He loves to play and talk (his own words) and he loves to smile and laugh. He loves to scream and hear his voice and he loves to look in the mirror. And he loves his mommy!!!! He is the sweetest little boy when he wakes up; very laid back and relaxed and just sort of grins at everything. Everyday we are amazed at God's goodness.

Sorry it has been so long since we've added any news or photos to this page. Silas is growing up fast on us and will be 20 weeks tomorrow!! He is learning to have a great time, and he loves to smile and laugh. He kicks his little feet and he loves to be tickled. We are very excited about our first Christmas with Silas. Its been a whirlwind of a year as we look back over 2007. About a year ago was when we had our scare with Kelly in the hospital, and Silas was just a little gummy bear inside her at the time. And here comes Christmas time again, and we are so blessed to have this beautiful little boy smiling at us. I feel so blessed every time I look at Kelly and Silas. The Lord has been so good. We've added some new photos below, including Mama Marty and Granna Beth and Aunt April!

Vacation!!

We went on our first vacation as a 3-person family and had an amazing time. We spent 3 days in Blowing Rock, North Carolina and 3 days in Johnson City, Tennessee for my 5 year reunion at Milligan College. It was a week full of relaxing, taking drives, taking walks, visiting old shops and towns, beautiful mountains, swimming, more relaxing, seeing old friends, visiting Great Grandmother Eileen, shopping, and relaxing even more. Silas had a great time. He loved the mountains, he loved the road, he loved hotels, he loved Milligan, he loved Great Grandmother Eileen, he loved meeting Mommy and Daddy's friends, and he loved spraying Daddy's face while getting his diaper changed.

Fall Retreat

Silas went on his first retreat this past weekend! We had our Vine Ministry Fall Retreat and Silas loved every minute of it. He met so many people and he was well-behaved. Kelly and I are amazed every day by Silas and how he grows and changes. And we amazed every day that Silas is our little boy and that God has given us this child and this responsibility and has made us parents. We are so thankful and honored.

Growing Fast

We can't get over how fast Silas is growing and changing everyday. He is starting to smile a lot and its amazing what that does in our hearts. He is starting to sleep better and better during the night and for longer periods of time!! When his little tummy is not hurting him, he's such a peaceful little guy and just loves to look around. He really enjoys looking at lights. He knows his momma's voice and smiles real big when she talks to him. Its hard to believe that he is coming up on 8 weeks old. Thank you for all your prayers over the last couple weeks. We have been so blessed by God and He has provided and been so faithful.

Adding and Subtracting

Silas is adding pounds and Kelly is subtracting hair. Kelly decided to get a haircut for the first time since she was 2 years old (she would get trims with her headaches would start!) Kelly had been thinking for awhile about doing it and she knew she could donate it to Locks of Love. Well, while at Kosair, we saw a little child who didn't have any hair, and Kelly knew it was time. She went and had 11 inches or so cut off and donated. And now her hair doesn't get in the way as much as she takes care of Silas, who is growing every day. He smiles so much and is such a happy little boy. Just when it seems we couldn't love him anymore, we love him more and more. We are so thankful for God's blessing.

Silas at the hospital

Well we got to take Silas home last night after a few days at Kosair Children's Hospital. We have a write-up below of our experience. And again, we have experienced God's provision and faithfulness, and we are so grateful. Thank you for all the prayers. His fever is going down, and over the next week or so, his little body should work out the illness. We're proud of our little guy and he was so tough! We definitely appreciate your prayers!

Its been a crazy couple of days. On Monday morning, Kelly woke Silas up and noticed he was very warm. She took his temperature and he was 101.7. We went to the pediatrician and they were concerned about his fever at only 5 weeks old and sent us later in the day to Kosair hospital to be thorough. Little Silas had to go through some tough procedures: and IV that took 3 tries, had blood drawn, had a cathedar, and also had a spinal tap. It was pretty hard on Kelly and myself watching him go through all this, but we're thankful he's already forgotten about it! Anyway, we stayed the night at the hospital and they informed us this morning that he has viral meningitis. It really scared us at first and we were a little overwhelmed. But the doctors assured us that viral meningitis is better news than bacterial meningitis, and they said it should go away in a few days. Well it was amazing to see all the support and encouragement we got. People started calling and visiting and there were so many prayers going up. We've been so strengthened by it and we know God is in control. He's been so provisional and has taken such good care of us and we just place it in His hands. Kelly and Silas are lying here asleep as I type this. His temperature is going down, and he's gotten some good antibiotics to stop any infections before they happen. The doctors and nurses have been amazing. Silas has been a little cranky and we don't blame him. We're so proud of Silas and he's been a tough little guy. Thank you all so much for your prayers and encouragement. Even in a time like this, we have felt so blessed and God is so good. We are so thankful to God for Silas and cherish him so much. He is such a gift, and we've hated to see him in pain. To think our Father in heaven would send His Son to suffer and die for us. There's no greater love or grace than that.

Mr. Silas is growing and changing everyday. He's really beginning to look around and explore with his eyes. And he's starting to smile more and more and we can't get enough of that! We take lots and lots of pictures of our boy, so we'll post a bunch on here. We are so thankful to God for Silas and everyday is a joy with him.

On Labor Day, we headed over to Kelly's grandparents and got to spend time with cousins, aunts, uncles, great-aunts, grandparents, great grandparents and siblings! It was a great day with the family and everyone couldn't get enough of Silas!

Silas is definitely our little buddy. He's the sweetest little guy and we are so thankful for our son. He's been holding his eyes open a lot more, and its amazing watching him discover the things around him. Even Nonnins, our dog, is getting used to Silas being around. In one of these pictures, you'll see Nonnins in the background just hanging out by the window. Kelly is doing great and is an amazing mother! She loves on Silas so much. We are so thankful and blessed to share Silas, and we know he's a gift from God. Enjoy the pictures.

Silas is home!

Silas has now been home for a few days and he's doing great. We just find ourselves staring at him all the time. He's been doing pretty good at night. Of course, that's easy for me to say because I don't have to stay up and feed him. So I'm definitely getting more sleep than Kelly. And she's doing great too. She's an amazing mother. We can already see Silas growing up and changing. He loves to eat and sleep and he loves when visitors come to see him. He's the sweetest little boy and he gets that from his mother for sure. We are so thankful to God for Silas; we don't know what we'd do without him. Here are some more pictures of him at home.

The Mother

She's always wanted to be a mother. She told me. And you can see it. I see it. I know it.
I watched her as she nervously and excitedly told me the pregnancy test results.
I watched and listened to her pray for this baby.
I watched as she glowed and lit up when we told people the good news.
I watched her struggle and fight for her life in the hospital back in December, going through all that pain and scare for our child.
I watched her get sick over the months, fatigued with pregnancy.
I watched and listened to her pray for this baby.
I watched her wrestle with her emotional changes.
I watched her in each doctor's appointment.
I watched her smile at every ultrasound.
I watched and listened to her pray for this baby.
I watched her standing in the nursery of our house, waiting for this baby.
I watched her endure weeks of back pain.
I watched her smile and talk with people, speaking kindly and masking the pain she was going through.
I listened to her tell me I was going to be a good daddy.
I watched and listened to her pray for this baby.
I heard her tell me to take us to the hospital.
I watched her eyes when they said a baby would be born.
I watched her get sick during labor.
I watched her go all natural with delivery.
I watched, helplessly watched, her breathe through pain and pray to God for His mercy.
I watched her push and push and push, no matter the pain.
I watched her hold Silas for the first time, smiling into his eyes.
I watched Silas and her, both trying to figure out the feeding thing.
I watched her love on this child.
I listen to her give God all the credit for this child.
I watch and listen to her pray for Silas.
If only you could have seen all this, and hear all this, and watch her each day. What a mother she is!!! These pictures don't scratch the service of the love between Kelly and Silas. I am a blessed and thankful husband, father, and son.

Silas Shay Dabney is here!!!! Silas was born today, Saturday, Aug. 4th, just after 2:00pm. He weighed in at 7lbs/1ounce and measured 18 inches long. Kelly did great!!! She went all natural and did an amazing job! She prayed her way through the whole thing. We are so thankful to God for how good He has been and we feel so blessed. Thank you so much for your prayers. We'll have more pictures soon!

Almost There!!

We have just about 3 weeks until the due date!! Kelly had a great ultrasound this morning and the baby is healthy and growing. Its almost 6 pounds already. We are so thankful to God and praise Him for this child. Here are a few recent pictures as Kelly draws near to delivery. We are praying for little Jessy Grace or Silas Shay. Hopefully in a few weeks, we'll have some pictures of a baby on here!

30 weeks along!!!

Its been a long time since we have updated the blog, but Kelly is now over 30 weeks along!! We had a great doctor's appointment earlier this week, and everything looked great. The heartbeat was great, the growth measurements were great, and the baby even had the hiccups at that time. We are so excited about the baby and so thankful to God for how good He has been!! We can't wait to see if it will be Jessy Grace or Silas Shay!! Thank you for all your prayers.

23 Weeks Along!!

Kelly is at 23 weeks, so only 17 more to go! The baby kicks and kicks and roll around a lot. The doctor said we have a very active baby!! This past Thursday, we had a great doctor's appointment. Both Kelly and the baby are doing great. Our doctor said everything looks great and all the measurements of the baby look normal and healthy. Thank you for your prayers! We feel so blessed and are so thankful to God for this baby.

Welcome to Baby Dabney's blog site. Will it be Jessy Grace or Sylas Shay?? We don't know either, but we're supposed to find out on August 13th (the due date). Kelly is 21 weeks along and she is doing great!! We pray everyday that this little baby will be healthy and that God will protect it as He knits it together in its mother's womb. Well this blog site will be the place to check in to see how the baby is doing. We'll try and keep it up-to-date with prayer requests, doctor's reports, ultrasounds, and our thoughts and feelings on everything. We are so excited about this baby and feel so blessed by God. Little Jessy Grace or Sylas Shay is always in our prayers and on our minds. We'd love your prayers as well!!
